full metal jacket

Full Metal Jacket: An Accurate Portrayal of the Vietnam War The Vietnam War was one of the most controversial American military involvements of the twentieth century. There has always been much discussion as to why the Americans were forced into defeat and as to why so many American soldiers died for a purpose that was not achieved. Many directors have made attempts at recreating the horrors of this war, and many have been criticized for providing an unrealistic depiction of it. In 1987, Full Metal Jacket, a Stanley Kubrick film, dared to oppose these traditional expectations of failure. Beginning in aParris Island boot camp and ending in the Vietnamese city, Hue, it attempts to show, “the distasteful irony between the desire for combat and true terror of war.”1 The film, Full Metal Jacket provides its audience with a historically accurate picture of all aspects of the Vietnam War. Although the screenplay is based on a fictional story line revolving around a Vietnam War journalist, Stanley Kubrick provides a variety of factional occurrences that would be expected of a Vietnam War movie, which create a realistic setting.

what is the difference between vietnam and vietcong?

Viet Minh were the nationalist soldiers who fought against the Japanese during WW-2 with assistance from the OSS (the forerunner of the CIA) who armed and trained them from May 1944. The Viet Minh were headed by Ho chi minh and the former school teacher, General Giap. The Viet Cong is a shortening of the Vietnamese way of saying 'Vietnamese communist". It refers to the members of the "National Liberation Force of Southern Vietnam" (NLF) who fought against the Ngo Dien Diem regime of the illegal (under international law and the 1954 Geneva Agreements) Republic of southern vietnam. The term, Viet Cong is a misnomer, as the majority of the NLF were not communist, but ordinary peasants. Only about 4-5% of the NLF were communist and less than 20% of those knew anything about Karl Marx or Vladamir Lenin and their theories.

Side Effects of War

Post Traumatic Stess Disorder (PTSD) can afflict combat veterans and victims of rape or abuse. This mental illness can cause anxiety, depression, rage, self-destructive behavior and suicide. Although some PTSD symptoms may persist for a lifetime, the sooner veterans get treated, the less disabled they will be. The military and VA have been overwhelmed. They are now hiring “outside” therapists to treat vets. Reservists who aren't near Vet Centers are being neglected. GI's with PTSD are being sent back to the war after having been declared “cured.” The misconduct caused by PTSD results in bad discharges, which bar veterans from VA treatment and benefits. Since PTSD symptoms include a reluctance to even admit that a problem exists, we reach out to families through our contacts and groups such as MFSO, Military Families Speak Out. PTSD can destroy family and work life, but those can be restored with treatment and support.

Agent Orange Relief

The US sprayed 12 million gallons of the defoliant over jungles between 1961 and 1971 during the Vietnam war.Vietnamese experts say more than three million people have suffered the effects of the herbicide, of which some 400,000 died. The development is being hailed as one of the most significant in relations between Washington and Hanoi. But now the US recognises that dioxin, found in Agent Orange, is a highly toxic substance. The US Congress appropriated an initial $3m in 2007 for the effort and the figure has since risen to $32m.

knowing what i know about sb1070

migrant workers are playing their roles. it all plays out how its fated. htose twho attend college tend to live comfortably. unfortunately, those in different circumstances, atleast in america, must play the hand theyre dealt. a u.s citizen would perform such jobs but u.s provides so many oppurtunities for citizens to promote and overcome such tribulations making their lives easier

SB1070

sb1070 is a prejudice law hidden behind a maze of politics. i know its in arizona, constitutiionally challenged, police can ask for immigration papers at anytime, and its considered racial profiling. the purpose of the bill is to make sure immigrants are registered.also i find that racial profiling is nowhere found in the bill although those who enforce it may be committing such prejudice acts. arizona lawmakers justify it with community safety. but my question is why is it only the communities in arizona that need this law and not the other 50 states.
